Key forging technologies for the space sector include open-die, closed-die, ring rolling and cold rotary forging. Forged components include the following:
- Combustion-chamber/nozzle blanks and throat reinforcement rings
- Pressure-vessel rings, tank couplings and interstage rings
- Thrust rings, flange interfaces and high-load structural rings
- Landing-gear links, actuator housings, brackets
- Turbine/impeller disks and hot-section components
Alloys for space components include the following:
- Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V / ELI) — best strength-to-weight for structural fittings and many critical parts
- Nickel superalloys (Inconel 718, 625, etc.) — hot strength and corrosion resistance for hot-section and some rotating parts
- Aluminum (including Al-Li) — lightweight structural rings and fittings where forging + machining is used
- Aerospace steels / maraging steels — fasteners, housings, high-strength fittings
